Absence makes the heart grow fonder, hopefully

Soooooooo yeah. It's been like a year and a half since I posted here. But I have finally figured out how to keep several identities active and signed in (the secret = two web browsers. shhh, don't tell).

I have received so many wonderful letters from readers. I wish I could have replied to each and every one of them. I am going to at least send out a group reply to everyone who's written me so that you know I got your note. But I appreciate all the kind words and encouragement.

Here's the sitch.

Not long after "Zero at the Bone" was published, I had significant, life-changing surgery. I was not ill nor did I have a serious condition, but it was a major procedure that's wrought huge sea changes in my life. Most of my mental energy since the summer of 2009 has been dedicated to that process. I have been writing, but almost all of it has been comfort writing. Easy and fun. Unfortunately, writing for publication hasn't been my priority. I'm returning to the point where that's something I want to focus on again. I know many readers are wondering about a sequel to Zero. Finding my way to that story has been difficult, more difficult than I ever anticipated it would be. But hope springs eternal.

In the meantime I hope to have a more active Web presence in the future, even if there's no publication date for anything new from me on the horizon. Thanks for hanging in there!

  1. Hi, Jane!

  2. Hi Jane, I'm glad to know you're doing well after your surgery, and also that you're still writing! It makes me so sad to see a writer just fall off the planet after writing one or two really good books. I'm really looking forward to a sequel to Zero at the Bone sometime in the future, but in the meanwhile, I'd be really interested in reading your "comfort writing", if you ever feel like sharing.

Best wishes (as silly and generic as that is, I really mean that!),

  3. You deserve all the accolades you receive for "Zero," Jane!! It is a powerful and timely story and the characters are well-formed and real. Take care of you and heal on your own body's time. Don't try to rush things and keep it all light and positive.

That said, might there be a continuation/completion from your "other" self/manifestation in the foreseeable future? I'm sure there are faithful readers other than myself who would appreciate and sigh in relief to learn whether you are -- or are not(?) -- going to slip into that particular persona.

Meanwhile, rest well... follow the doctor's orders and let the dervishes whirl! Love you, Hon!

  4. Hi Jane it's wonderful to hear from you. I am sooo happy you are doing well, I happen to be one of those readers who can't wait for a sequel to "Zero at the Bone", but I will wait, you can't rush these things, when you're ready to start writing for "Zero" you will, and I'll be here ready to read.

    Best Wishes to you!

  5. Here I was thinking the silence was you being busy with a trilogy sequel to Zero!....No, seriously,I'm so very glad to hear that all is going well, the pain from surgery and its aftermath can be very debilitating, emotionally & physically, with many ups & downs. I agree with the sentiment regarding your comfort writing being posted on the web. I have enjoyed the short stories about our two boys....yeah, your fans have adopted them. If a sequel is to happen it'll come when its good and ready. However, its not just the protagonists we fell in love with, it's your style of word-smithing that struck a cord with your readers. Perhaps your comfort stories are worth tidying up and putting into a collection of short stories. The exercise & remuneration may act as a catalyst for further ideas and, trust me, your fans will certainly snap the book up very quickly.

  6. Hi Jane,as much as I adore your writing and wish you would write more, I am enjoying reading about your successes after surgery. You look marvelous. My Husband suffered a heart attack at age 37 and he took up running, ran many marathons including the Boston Marathon. He is now 75 but still runs three times a week, we hike a lot but I miss the woodsy trails you have back east.Sorry to hear about your flooding disaster. I can sympathies having had pipes break in our house.
    My best wishes to you.

  8. I'm so happy just to hear news from you. Our own well-being is always of priority. Everything else will fall into place and there's a time and place for everything important to us in our lives. Glad to hear you are healing, in however many aspects of your life that is.
As for Zero? I lie down in absolute homage to this story. LOLLLLL!!! Oh geez. There's no words to express how much I love that story - which reminds me, it's been too long since I read it. I must visit D and (for me, it will always be) Jack. As long as I live and breathe, if a Zero sequel ever pops up, I am there faster than Wiley Coyote.

God bless you, wonderful writer, and thanks so much sharing a piece of yourself to us.

    Fondest memorable regards,
